Director, Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Location: Position required to be performed in-person at the College of Nursing on the University of Iowa Campus 

The Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program Director at the University of Iowa College of Nursing is an innovative and collaborative individual, committed to the mission of the University of Iowa, and passionate about preparing nurse practitioners to meet the health and healthcare needs of children in Iowa and across the Nation. The director cultivates a program of academic and clinical excellence making the University of Iowa Pediatric Primary Care Program the preferred choice for graduate students, especially in Iowa.  

 

The Program Director is responsible for the daily operation of the Pediatric Primary Care Program and will serve as a strategic, academic, and operational leader in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Graduate Practice Programs (ADGPP).  

 

The Program Director will collaborate with faculty and the ADGPP to ensure students learn through inter-professional, interdisciplinary, and team-based approaches as they prepare for future careers as healthcare leaders.  

The Program Director will receive sufficient release time to support maintenance of certification, clinical expertise, licensure, and continuing professional development specific to the maintenance of certification in the primary care children. The Pediatric Primary Care Program Director will report directly to the Associate Dean for Graduate Practice Programs and their Division Head.

Education Requirement:



  • Master’s in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Earned doctorate in nursing or a doctorate in a related field with a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing preferred. 

Required Qualifications:



  • Licensed Registered Nurse, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.  Must be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse and able to obtain and maintain licensure in the State of Iowa 



  • National nurse practitioner certification in Pediatric Primary Care 



  • DEA registration and Iowa Controlled Substance License (or eligible for and maintain licenses)



  • Typically, three or more years of clinical experience as a pediatric nurse practitioner providing care in a role aligned with pediatric primary care certification



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated by the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships



  • Evidence of formal teaching in nursing education and/or recognized preparation for teaching in an academic setting 



  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives

Desirable Qualifications:



  • Professional service to nursing/health organizations 



  • Record of scholarship (publication and professional speaking) 



  • Acknowledged record of service and teaching success 



  • Evidence of progress toward a record of professional productivity beyond clinical service 



  • Experienced in professional leadership or preparation for leadership roles



  • Desired education from an R1 institution; a liberal arts college or a teaching intensive institution; or public, non-profit private institution 



  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field from an accredited school of nursing with national certification in specialty area (when applicable)
