Description

Whomever selected, will need to live and reside within regions 10 & 11. The Office of the State School Security Marshal (OSSSM) regions 10 & 11 consist of the following counties: Bell, Breathitt, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Lawrence, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Morgan, Perry, Pike and Wolfe. Their office will be based out of their home and a vehicle shall be provided by DOCJT to travel to the school district in which they will be responsible. Occasional travel may be required to other locations within the Commonwealth to assist in trainings, risk assessments, and to attend to the needs of the department.

As a Compliance Investigator II, you will serve as a critical link between schools, law enforcement, and state agencies, conducting safety audits, ensuring compliance with state law, and guiding districts toward safer, more resilient campuses. This position offers meaningful public service and the opportunity to make a measurable difference in the lives of Kentucky's students, educators, and communities.


The Investigator II in the East Section will be responsible for traveling to several different counties within their region of responsibility, while living within their region and assisting in training of School Resource Officers throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The ideal candidate shall have proficient verbal and written communication skills, due to interacting with school Superintendents, Principals, students and elected governmental officials. As well through compiling state mandated risk assessments utilizing an assessment tool as mandated in the Kentucky Revised Statues.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct complex compliance audits of schools across the State of Kentucky, work as liaison between schools and law enforcement resources.
  • Answer questions regarding the risk assessment tool mandated by the School Safety and Resiliency Act.
  • Utilize the School Safety Risk Assessment mandated by Senate Bill 1 of 2019 as a base tool to assess the compliance of schools.
  • Conduct and assist in training sessions for School Resource Officers, district staff, school classes and outside groups.
  • Organizes, coordinates, reviews and inspects documentation received from schools during assessment, and LE agencies that reference Emergency Operating Procedures for schools.
  • Interviews witnesses and conducts sensitive complex investigations involving Peace Officer or client agency.
  • Assist is the review of records and reports.
  • Other duties as required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Prior law enforcement experience is a perquisite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of the use of computer technology, e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Apple products – iPad.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • May be required to carry and, or, use a firearm.
  • Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology.
  • Spend a major portion of time using a computer.
  • Travel required (state vehicle provided).

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.




EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years experience in the field of investigative law enforcement or a related field of investigation.




Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE




Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience as a sworn law enforcement officer will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.




SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Employees in this classification are subject to the provisions of KRS Chapter 15 and 503 KAR 1:140 relating to peace officer certification as administered by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. Working Conditions

May work irregular hours due to nature of investigative work. Will be required to travel in the course of investigations. May be exposed to dangerous situations and makes physical arrests. Works in all types of weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
