Job Description

For GS-14: Applicants MUST possess one year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and are typically in or directly related to the position being filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service, or comparable pay band system. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is experience applying National Airspace System's standard operating procedures sufficiently to identify anomalies in procedures or processes resulting from human error; Conducting complex research and analyses to identify the causal factors involved in aviation accidents and incidents resulting from human error; Constructing comparative analyses to determine or refute plausible causes of aviation accidents or incidents where human error has been identified as a primary contributing factor; and experience supporting the development of policy, procedures, or guidance in applied aviation human factors topics. This position is in the Office of Aviation Safety, Human Performance & Survival Factors Division. The incumbent of this position serves as a human performance investigator in the aspects of aircraft accidents; plans and conducts human performance studies relevant to determining the probable cause of specific aviation accidents and formulates pertinent safety recommendations.
