About the Role:
The Data Software Engineer Intern role focuses on developing and optimizing the Zero-Emission Fleet Planning Tool, a tool that helps transit agencies, school bus fleets, and truck fleets transition to zero-emission vehicles. The Intern will play a key role in building and enhancing Python-based APIs that power real-time data integration, fleet simulations, and operational analytics, ensuring a seamless and high-performance user experience.
In this role, the intern will work with APIs, databases, and backend infrastructure to support fleet transition modeling, energy analysis, and infrastructure planning. The contributions will directly impact fleet operators by streamlining data workflows, improving system scalability, and enabling smarter decision-making for sustainable transportation.
This is a part-time (25 hours per week) 6 month internship.
What You'll Do:
Develop, integrate, and optimize APIs to enhance system functionality and efficiency.
Write and maintain documentation for APIs, deployment processes, and integrations.
Write clean, scalable Python code, following best practices in object-oriented design.
Manage SQL databases (PostgreSQL) for efficient data storage and retrieval.
Optimize API performance and troubleshoot issues to maintain reliability.
Automate data workflows using Python-based tools (Pandas, NumPy).
Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and continuous integration.
Utilize Git for version control, ensuring smooth collaboration and workflow management.

$16 - $21 an hour
CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The complete salary range for this role is $16-$21/hr. Pay is determined based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, internal equity, and other factors relevant to the job.
