Job Description

Job Summary

Ascension is seeking qualified, dependable, and faith-aligned substitute teachers to support classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher. Substitute teachers play a critical role in maintaining the continuity of Catholic education, upholding the values and mission of the school while managing student learning and behavior.

Job Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans left by the regular teacher to ensure consistent instruction.

  • Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.

  • Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, and other assigned areas.

  • Take attendance and complete other administrative tasks as needed.

  • Communicate with school administrators regarding student behavior, incidents, or concerns.

  • Support the school’s Catholic mission and model Gospel values.

  • Lead or support prayer and religious practices appropriate to the classroom setting (depending on the subject area).

  • Adapt to different grade levels and subject matter as needed.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred.

  • Practicing Catholic preferred (may be required for religion classes).

  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to engage students.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Background check and fingerprint clearance required.

  • Willingness to support the Catholic identity and mission of the school.
