23 full list of Ministers of the NEW DANISH GOVERNMENT

Mette Frederiksen has now lifted the veil on who will be ministers in the future government. 

The list of ministers shows that the chairman of the Venstre (V), Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, will become deputy prime minister and minister of defense, and that the Moderaternes (M) Lars Løkke Rasmussen will become foreign minister. 

The ministerial positions are distributed such that the Social Democrats (S) have 11 ministerial positions, the Venstre (V) have 7, and then the Moderates (M) have 5 – if the two ministers from outside are members of the Moderates. 

The government will consist of 8 women and 15 men. 

Complete list of Ministers: 

1. Prime Minister: Mette Frederiksen (S)

Prime Minister of Denmark since 2019 and chairman of the Social Democrats since 2015. She has previously been Minister of Justice (2014 – 2015) and Minister of Employment (2011 – 2014). 

2. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense: Jakob Ellemann-Jensen (V)

Chairman of Venstre since 2019. He was Minister of the Environment and Food (2018 – 2019) in the VLAK government. He has a background in the military. 

3. Minister of Foreign Affairs: Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M)

Founder and chairman of the Moderate party. He is the former Prime Minister of the Venstre first from 2009 – 2011 and most recently from 2015 – 2019. He was chairman of the Venstre from 2009 – 2019 and has a background as both Minister of Finance (2007 – 2009) and Minister of the Interior and Health (2001 – 2007). 

4. Minister of Finance: Nicolai Wammen (S)

Continues in the post of Minister of Finance, which he has held since 2019. Before that, he was political rapporteur for the Social Democrats from 2015 – 2019. He has held both the job of Minister of Defense (2013 – 2015) and Minister of Europe (2011 – 2013). 

5. Minister of Economy: Troels Lund Poulsen (V)

Member of the Danish Parliament for the Venstre and has held a number of ministerial positions. He was Minister of Employment (2016 – 2019), Minister of Business and Growth (2015 – 2016), Minister of Education (2011 – 2011), Minister of Taxation (2010 – 2011) and Minister of the Environment (2007 – 2010). 

6. Minister of the Interior and Health: Sophie Løhde (V)

Has been political rapporteur for the Venstre since 2019. She has been minister for public innovation (2016 – 2019) and minister for health and the elderly (2015 – 2016). 

7. Minister of Justice: Peter Hummelgaard (S)

Changes from the job as Minister of Employment and Minister for Equality for the Social Democrats, which he has held since 2020. Before that, he was Minister of Employment (2019 – 2020). 

8. Minister of Culture: Jakob Engel-Schmidt (M)

Political leader of the Moderates from 2021-2022. Has been a member of the Danish Parliament for the Left since 2013 and national chairman of the Venstres Youth (2009 – 2011). 

9. Business Minister: Morten Bødskov (S)

Replaces the title of defense minister with business minister, which he has held since February 2022. He has previously been tax minister (2019 – 2022) and justice minister (2011-2013). 

10. Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy: Dan Jørgensen (S)

Former climate, energy and supply minister from 2019 to 2022. He has been a member of the Danish Parliament for the Social Democrats since 2015. 

11. Minister of the Environment: Magnus Heunicke (S)

Comes from the position of Minister of Health, which he has held since 2019. He was previously Minister of Transport (2014 – 2015). Has been a member of the Danish Parliament for the Social Democrats since 2005. 

12. Minister of Social Affairs and Housing: Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil (S)

Has been Minister for Children and Education since 2019 and has sat in the Norwegian Parliament for the Social Democrats since 2011. She was a Member of Parliament for the Enhedslisten in 1999 and again from 2001 to 2007. 

13. Employment Minister: Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen (S)

Took over the position as Minister of Culture and the Church in August 2021. Before that, she was Minister of Education and Research (2019-2021). She entered the Danish Parliament for the Social Democrats back in 2011. 

14. Minister for Children and Education: Mattias Tesfaye (S)

Changes ministerial post from Minister of Justice. Before that, he was Minister of Immigration and Integration from (2019-2022). Has been a Social Democratic Member of Parliament since 2015. 

15. Minister for Immigration and Integration: Kaare Dybvad Bek (S)

Became Minister for Immigration and Integration in May this year. In 2019 he became Minister of Housing, and in 2021 he became Minister of the Interior and Housing (2021-2022). Has sat in the Folketing for the Social Democratic Party since 2015. 

16. Minister of Finance: Jeppe Bruus (S)

Has been Minister of Taxation since February this year. Was elected to the Folketing for the Social Democracy in 2014. Before that, he has been a temporary member of the Folketing for two terms. 

17. Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries: Jacob Jensen (V)

This is his first ministerial post. Has been a Member of Parliament for the Venstre since 2005, where he has, among other things, been environmental rapporteur. 

18. Minister of the Church, Minister for Rural Districts and Minister for Nordic Cooperation: Louise Schack Elholm (V)

Member of Parliament for the Venstre and has been since 2007. Among other things, she has been the party’s church spokesman. 

19. Transport Minister: Thomas Danielsen (V)

Has been awarded his first ministerial post. He has sat in the Norwegian Parliament for the Venstre since 2011, where he was chairman of the climate, energy and supply committee from 2015 to 2019. 

20. Minister of Education and Research: Christina Egelund (M)

One of two ministers who have been brought in from outside. She has previously been a member of parliament for the Liberal Alliance (2015-2019) and was also chairman of the party’s parliamentary group (2018-2019). In 2019, together with Simon Emil Ammitzbøll-Bille (I), she founded the Fremad party, which they closed the following year. 

21. Minister for Digitization and Minister for Equality: Marie Bjerre (V)

It is her first ministerial post. Has been a member of the Norwegian Parliament for the Venstre since 2019, where she has been climate rapporteur from 2021 and sustainability and global goals rapporteur (2019-2020 and 2021-2022). 

22. Minister for the Elderly: Mette Kierkgaard (M)

Was elected to the Folketing for the Moderates in the election this year. She is deputy chairman of the party’s parliamentary group. She has a background in both Esbjerg and Viborg Municipality as head of family and head of authority respectively. 

23. Climate, Energy and Supply Minister: Lars Aagaard (M)

One of two ministers brought in from outside. He is a former director of Dansk Energi (2009-2022). He has also briefly been head of climate change at the Kraka think tank since November this year.
