We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Senior Data Scientist to join our Marketplace Payments & Financial Services team. In this role, you will drive data driven decision making and develop advanced models that power key financial products such as working capital, faster payouts, manages risk related to seller payouts and other seller-facing financial services.

You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Risk, and Business stakeholders to deliver insights and solutions that optimize financial outcomes, reduce risk, and improve seller experience at scale.

What You’ll Do:

• Develop and maintain advanced risk models for seller behavior, payment anomalies, and credit exposure using internal and external data.
• Leverage advanced machine learning to build forecasting models for sales and service spend, shaping strategy to enhance capital offer quality and optimize credit limit assessments for our sellers.
• Support credit risk strategy to drive growth and monetization while minimizing losses and maintaining seller experience.
• Extract actionable insights from complex datasets (e.g., payments, orders, shipping, financials) using statistical to drive product and risk strategy.
• Perform root cause analysis and apply causal inference to assess product impact and guide strategic decisions.
• Build dashboards and automated systems to track model performance, risk signals enabling proactive risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product, Engineering, Trust & Safety, Seller Services) to prototype, scale, and productionize robust data science solutions.
• Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:

• Master’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree with 7 years relevant experience, in a highly quantitative field (i.e. Applied Math, Engineering, Statistics, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Analytics, Operations Research, or related field preferred)
• Experience in Financial services industry preferably in Payments, strategic risk consulting, credit or fraud risk management preferred is a plus
• Expertise in building and deploying machine learning models for real-world applications.
• Experience with model evaluation, optimization, and tuning for performance improvements.
• Strong Programming skills in any language (Python, R, Java, SQL, etc.)
• Solid understanding ecommerce business metrics and KPIs and the ability to discover new ones as required
• Team player, strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to thrive independently in a highly ambiguous and dynamic environment

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
